Swiss authorities detain Russian vice-president of bankrupt Xamax

Vice-president of the troubled Swiss football club Xamax Islam Satuev was put under arrest by prosecutors in Switzerland. He has been charged with fraud and financial mismanagement under article 165 of the Swiss criminal code.

The prosecutors in Geneva are accusing Satuev, along with the club’s owner Bulat Chagaev, of participating in financial dealings that led to Xamax being declared bankrupt and losing its licence to play matches.

Chagaev was arrested earlier under suspicion of forgery and possible money-laundering offences. The Chechen businessman was taken into custody a few hours after the team officially filed for bankruptcy.
