Lokomotiv Moscow appoint Jose Couceiro as head coach

Jose Couceiro will take charge of Lokomotiv Moscow, according to the club’s official website. Today the 48-year-old Portuguese coach signed a two years contract with the Russian club.

Couceiro will conduct his first training on July 3 after the team returns from the short term holiday. His coaching staff will take final shape within the next few days, after he talks with the team’s regular coaches.

Earlier Couceiro has been coaching FC Porto, Portugal U21 team, Lithuania’s Kaunas, Lithuania national team, and Turkey’s Gaziantepspor. His latest place of employment was Sporting Lisbon: in the end of February, after Paolo Sergio’s resignation, Couceiro was appointed their interim head coach until the end of the season.

According to reports in the Romanian media, Kuban Krasondar head coach Dan Petrescu was among the main candidates for this position at Lokomotiv, as well as Miodrag Bozovic. However, after careful consideration the Lokomotiv management opted for Jose Couceiro.
