Aiden McGeady forced to miss Italy friendly on Spartak’s request
Ireland national team winger Aiden McGeady will go back to Russia and miss his team’s friendly against Italy in Liege, Belgium, after Spartak Moscow requested his return to the club.
Despite Ireland head coach Giovanni Trapattoni allowed both McGeady and Wolverhampton’s Stephen Hunt to be released from the national team for the tomorrow night’s game. Both players asked to stay, but there came a request from Spartak Moscow to return as the Russian season is still ongoing.
«Aiden McGeady has been given permission by Giovanni Trapattoni to leave the squad after his club were in contact to request if he could be released ahead of forthcoming club games,» a Football Association of Ireland spokesman said as quoted by the Irish Examiner.
