Ilya Bryzgalov: People make some kind of Messiah out of me

Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov said that the Eastern Conference teams enjoy much bigger attention from the press than the Western ones and spoke about the high expectations fans have about him.

«You conceded five goals, your team lost. What would you do?»

«I’d just go to sleep. Next morning I’d wake up. If the sun rises, it means everything is OK once again.»

«You have moved from West to East. Did you notice any increase in attention to yourself?«

«Yes, there are much more journalists here. However, the questions are mostly the same everywhere.»

«HBO will make a TV show about the Flyers this season. They will even try to break into your house with the cameras.»

«I will close my door and let nobody in!.. We have a lot of stars, whom they could chase. Why me?»

«Because the Flyers have been waiting for a classy goalkeeper for years.»

«People make some kind of Messiah out of me. But hey, sorry, I’m not Jesus Christ. My attitude to the game is the same as it was before. The puck is as black as it always was. The players are similar. We have to work, and the time will tell,« Bryzgalov said to Sovetsky sport.
