Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Alexey Ionov was arrested by the police last night driving under influence. The club’s press manager Dmitry Tsimmerman confirmed the reports and said the player will face severe sactions.
«This is not the first case of Ionov breaking the rules. After previous cases the player was subject to a number of disciplinary sanctions. Zenit strongly condemns his actions. The club’s directors decided to require Ionov to reside permanently at the club’s training ground until the end of season, which, in fact, means quarantine.»
«In case this measure has no effect and the player continues to violate the club’s discipline, Zenit does not rule out a unilateral termination contract with him,» Zimmerman said as quoted by SportDialog.
