Oleg Shatov: Why did I pick Anzhi? It was my sixth sense

Anzhi Makhachkala’s new signing Oleg Shatov explained why he picked the Dagestan club instead of second-placed CSKA Moscow.

«Did you not say after training with CSKA that it was the best two weeks in your life?»

«I did, I am not denying that. It was a big step forward for me, meeting national team players like Berezucky and Ignashevich. But why I chose Anzhi instead? I guess it was my sixth sense, even though Ural’s president Grigory Ivanov wanted me to go to Moscow,» admitted the 21-year-old prospect.

«Were there any other factors involved?»

«If you are implying money, I can tell you that CSKA and Anzhi offered me, and my previous club, the same sort of deal. So I wouldn’t earn more here than I would have done in the Russian capital. But it was the presence of such legends as Eto’O and Roberto Carlos that convinced me in the end. They are my childhood heroes, I just wanted to be able to shake their hands,» Shatov told Sport-Express.
