South Africa 2010

Logo

The slogan for the 2010 World Cup was “Ke Nako. Celebrate Africa’s Humanity.” The graphic identity features a black silhouette of a bicycle kick with African colors throughout. Ke Nako simply means ‘it’s time.’ And indeed Africa’s time had come to use the 2010 FIFA World Cup to change perceptions of Africa and reposition the continent in a positive light with South Africa as the theatre and Africa the stage.

Poster

The poster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was designed by Gaby De Abreu as the conceptualiser and typographer, and Paul Dale as the illustrator. It uses very bold, literal graphics of an African gentleman about to header the ball. His head is more representative of the people of Africa, whilst the neck and chest morph more into the African continent, culminating in the South African coastline - the ultimate destination for the world cup and host country on behalf of Africa.

Ball • Jabulani

The Jabulani featured a new grip n groove technology that provided players a ball with stable flight and grip under all conditions. With eight thermally bonded 3-D panels that were spherically molded for the first time, the Jabulani was more round and accurate than its predecessors.
