Russian starlet Grigorenko scoops top prizes in junior Golden Puck Awards
Quebec Remparts starlet Mikhail Grigorenko sweeped off a number of top prizes at the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s annual Golden Puck Awards on Wednesday night.
The talented Russian prospect was nominated for five awards and claimed three of them, including the RDS Cup (Rookie of the Year), Michael Bossy Trophy (Top Professional Prospect) and the Michel Bergeron Trophy (Offensive Rookie of the Year).
«It was a pretty good year,» said the 17-year-old Quebec Remparts centre, who had 40 goals and 45 assists in 59 games. «I had a few injuries and didn’t like that but that’s hockey. I really wanted this at the start of the year. I worked hard and I’m happy to have earned it.»
He also thanked the Remparts head coach and general manager Patrick Roy for his help and advice.
«He taught me to play as a two-way forward, in the defensive zone, without the puck and I’m getting better every day,» Grigorenko said. «He always tries to talk to me and always help me with what I need to do on the ice.»
