Vyacheslav Malafeev: I knew how Pavlyuchenko takes penalties

Zenit St. Petersburg goalkeeper Vyacheslav Malafeev explained how he saved Roman Pavlyuchenko’s penalty kick in the 1-0 victory over Lokomotiv Moscow on Saturday.

«We always know who the opposition regular spot kick takers are and try to analyse their technique. I was also familiar with Roman’s style of taking penalties from our time in the national team,» the Zenit Number 1 revealed on his official website.

«When he went up to take the kick, I had two options, and I chose the right one. I managed to block the shot with my arm, rather than my wrist, so I had to make sure that the ball doesn’t roll over the line,» the Russian international added.
