Russian Premier League could loosen the quota on foreign players next season

The official quota on foreign players in the Russian Premier League may be expanded by the start of season 2012/13, Russian site Bobsoccer.ru claims.

According to the current regulations, up to six foreigners are allowed in a team, with at least five Russians having to be on the pitch during a match.

If the new proposal is accepted, clubs will be allowed to field seven foreigners at the same time.

Earlier CSKA Moscow president Yevgeny Giner suggested the quota should be cancelled all together, so teams could use as many foeign nationals as they see fit. His proposal was later criticised by Spartak Moscow owner Leonid Fedun.
