Pavel Pogrebnyak: I am in a fighting spirit
Fulham’s new signing Pavel Pogrebnyak spoke to Russian newspaper Sport-Express about his first impressions at the London club.
«How is your English, Pavel?»
«I used to go to an English school, but unfortunately I’ve forgotten most of it by now. German words keep popping out – it is tough to switch over. But I will try and get the hang of it, and knowing German can always come in handy.»
«Do you have an idea in your mind about the differences between English and German football?»
«To be honest, I don’t, yet. I heard that there are more crosses in the Premier League, whilst Bundesliga teams tend to keep the ball on the ground. But in my experience of playing in Germany, players often send the ball up the field for the strikers to fight it out, too.»
«What are your thoughts on Fulham?»
«I saw them on TV a few times. They play attractive football. Plenty of experienced international players, so it should be interesting for me. I remember in 2010 they got to the final of the Europa League. They have Johnson, Ruiz and Dembele in attack, but Clint Dempsey gets the most goals. A couple of famous veterans in the middle of the park Danny Murphy and Damian Duff, they can always put in a decent through ball.»
«Other Russians – Bilyaletdinov, Pavlyuchenko and Arshavin – found it tough playing in England. Are you afraid you will struggle?»
«It will be tough for me, too, but I am not afraid. I am in a fighting mood.»
