Roman Abramovich’s partner: No Russian coach will take over Chelsea
Sergey Kapkov, head of Roman Abramovich’s National Football Academy fund, which had been funding most of Guus Hiddink’s contract in Russia, has commented on the allegations that CSKA Moscow head coach Leonid Slutsky appears on the list of candidates for Chelsea manager position.
«I regard the information alleging that Slutsky may become Chelsea manager as a joke,» stated Kapkov to Sovetsky Sport.
«So unfavourable is your opinion on Slutsky?»
«He is one of the most professional coaches in the Russian league. But, firstly, he has a contract in force as of now, and, secondly, one has to know English language to work in England.»
«Doesn’t Slutsky know it?»
«At a level required to communicate with the aggressive English press – no, he doesn’t.»
«How is the new Chelsea manager selected in general?»
«I don’t know. It is a behind-the-scenes and minute work.»
«Guus Hiddink also features on Chelsea’s shortlist according to the English media. It is probable that he will take charge of the team?»
«Guus has a contract with the Turkish football federation.»
«It didn’t stop him, when he had a valid contract with the Russian Football Union.»
«Well, the Russian FA had allowed him to hold two offices.»
«And the Turkish one won’t?»
«I don’t know. I doubt it.»
«What do you think of the probability for Chelsea to be headed by a Russian coach?»
«It’s equal to zero. There are no such Russian coaches.»
«Why? Is it a matter of qualification?»
«Both of qualification and of the fact that Russian coaches don’t work internationally. One needs to have his own views on international football.»
