Samuel Eto’o wins 2011 Lion d’or award
Anzhi forward Samuel Eto’o won the Lion d’or prize awarded to the best African footballer of the year 2010 according to Moroccan sports newspaper Al-Mountakhab.
This is the third Lion d’or won by the Cameroonian striker. Voting was conducted among journalists in Africa and the captains of the local teams. Eto’o won with 172 points, the second place went to Ghanaian forward Asamoah Gyan with 100 points, and the thirs one – to Moroccan forward Marouane Chamakh with 62 points.
Eto’o received the prize on Saturday in Marrakech at the ceremony attended by Cameroon head coach Denis Lavagne and the members of Royal Moroccan Football Federation.
«Hopefully, I can expect to win it following the results of 2011 as well,» he said as quoted by Aufait.
