Plushenko regains amateur status by unanimous decision of ISU
Evgeni Plushenko’s amateur status has been restored by an unanimous decision of the International Skating Union (ISU).
The ban had been imposed earlier on the former Olympic champion after he had missed WC-2010, pledging an injured knee, but had taken part in ice skating shows in the same period of time.
«ISU was positive about our federation’s request to allow Yevgeni to return on ice. We observed all the formalities and Ottavio Cinquanta did not hesitate to put the question for consideration of the Council in Amsterdam.
«As I’ve been told, all the votes were yea, not a single nay. The voters have shown respect both for Russia and for the sportsman, who has done so much on the ice and called his return on ice and successful performance in Sochi the dream of his life,» stated executive director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKR) Valentin Piseyev to Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
