Tom Tomsk may withdraw from Russian Premier League due to financial problems

Sergey Ilyinykh, president of football club Tom Tomsk, revealed that the club won’t be able to take part in the upcoming matches of the Russian Premier League unless their financial problems are solved in the nearest future.

«Unless the issue of our funding is settled in the nearest future, we won’t be able to participate in the games.

«We have to understand, whether the club can go to the next away game in a week [against Krylia Sovetov – Sports.ru]. We have a home game on Saturday. For today we can’t see any prospects of Tom’s further funding. The situation is critical. We look forward to hearing from the sponsors,» Ilyinykh stated as quoted by RIA Novosti.

The Siberian club was never among the richest in Russia and has been regularly encountering funding problems. This year Tom have been struggling financially once again and have already accumulated large wage arrears. The team’s captain Alexander Kharitonov had earlier revealed that the club hasn’t paid its players since the spring of 2011 and even has debts to some players for 2010.

Earlier it had been reported that the government of Tomsk Oblast won’t allocate funds to support Tom in 2012.
