‘Patchwork pattern’ chosen as the Look of the Games concept for 2014 Sochi Olympics

The Organizing Committee of 2014 Sochi Olympics has revealed the Look of the Games concept. The design will be based on the ‘patchwork pattern’ consisting of 16 most well-known Russian national ornaments.

The sixteen ornaments include Kuban ornament, Kubachi ornament, Gzhel, Khokhloma, Zhostovo, Palekh, Pavloposad, Vologda lace, Yakut ornament, Northern Dvina folk painting, Mezen painting, Rakulka painting, Uftyuga painting, trihedral carving, Russian chintz, and the Olympic ornament of the Russian national team.

The new Look of the Games should symbolize the ideology of the Olympics and the Russian national character, introducing the guests to the traditional Russian hospitality.
