Vladimir Kramnik: I will retire when I’m forty

Russian chess grand master Vladimir Kramnik has announced his intention to retire from professional sports in four years, when he turns forty.

«In terms of age I’m already a veteran of sports. There are, of course, people who play much longer, but I personally would like to be engaged in something else except chess. I like сhess, I still enjoy it. But I will hardly manage to keep myself at the top level for ten years or so, while it has no sense for me to play worse than I played before and to realize I’m going downwards.

«I have long ago put myself a limit that I will play until 40 years old, that means four more years or so,» Kramnik said as quoted by RIA Novosti.
