High jumper Andrey Silnov may take part in the World Championship

Russian high jumper Andrey Silnov has announced he may still be included in the Russian national team squad for the World Championship in Daegu, South Korea.

Silnov, the 2008 Olympic Champion, failed to earn a place in the team, following the results of the Russian championship, being left out in favour of Yaroslav Rybakov, Alexey Dmitrik, Alexander Shustov, and Ivan Ukhov. However, today he obtained a victory with a result of 2.36 meters at the Diamond League stage in London.

«I’m not in my best form now, but maybe I will gain it within a week or two. I missed out on a place in the national team for the World Championship, but everything is still possible,» Silnov said as quoted by SVT.

In 2008, Silnov made it to the Olympic Games in Beijing in a similar way, after being left out of the national team based on his performances, but then included by a decision of the Russian officials. He later went on to win the Olympic gold medal for Russia.
