Anzhi remove Roberto Carlos from squad list, fuelling rumours of imminent retirement

Anzhi Makhachkala have officially removed defender and playing coach Roberto Carlos from their squad list for the remainder of this season, thus fuelling speculation that the legendary Brazilian fullback is close to retirement.

German Chistyakov, the club’s executive director, confirmed the updated squad list in an interview to Sports.ru.

«Roberto Carlos does not feature in the squad as a player any longer. Once he gets the coaching licence, he will be announced as one of our assistant coaches.»

«Does that mean his career as a footballer is finished?»

«At the moment he is no longer a member of our squad, that is all I can say at the moment,» Chistyakov maintained.
