Kurban Berdyev: Carlos Eduardo’s absence from football is my fault

Rubin Kazan coach Kurban Berdyev admitted that his haste in bringing Brazilian striker Carlos Eduardo back on the playing field after long-term injury led to the recurrence of a knee problem.

«He was astonishing during the pre-season in Turkey, way above all the other strikers. Every attack would flourish under his influence. So the unfortunate recurrence of his injury happened due to my misjudgement,» the Rubin boss told Sport-Express.

«From the beginning we had two options: either do the surgery, or leave it. The German doctors suggested a surgical procedure was not necessary, and we, too, wanted to avoid it. But after the pre-season it became clear that the surgery is unavoidable, so we had to operate.»

According to club president Dmitry Samarenkin, Eduardo could return in three to four month’s time.
