Leonid Slutsky: In the end CSKA went gung-ho, and it worked

CSKA Moscow manager Leonid Slutsky spoke about his team’s Champions League 1-1 draw against Real Madrid on the Russian channel NTV.

«What did you feel after the match? If they’d scored another in the second half, it could have been a trashing…»

«We made a bad mistake in the situation when they scored, so it could have been 0-0 at the break. Real is bound to create chances against any team.»

«How did you avoid defeat?»

«We went gung-ho in the end, throwing all our remaining attacking players on the pitch and pushed up the field. All of that produced the desired effect.»

«What can you say about the newcomers?»

«Wernbloom not only scored a vital goal, but put in an incredible work-rate. Mussa looked good in some cases, but it is very hard for a 19-year-old to debut like this.»

«What do you expect from the return leg?»

When we went to Seville two years ago after a 1-1 draw in Moscow, the odds were against us, too. So we’ll give it a go in Madrid. It will be hard, but can be achieved.»
