New stadium has been inaugurated tonight at Grozny, capital of Chechen Republic. The 30,000-seater is intended for Terek Grozny’s games and is named after Akhmat-Hajji Kadyrov, father of the current president of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, assassinated in 2004 by Chechen islamists.
The centerpiece of the opening ceremony was the friendly game between the ‘Caucasus team’ and the team of world football stars. While the former included Ramzan Kadyrov himself and some well-known Russian players of the past like Rinat Dasaev, the latter consisted of Diego Maradona, Alain Boghossian, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, Luis Figo, Roberto Ayala, Robbie Fowler, Enzo Francescoli, Steve McManaman, Jean-Pierre Papin, Cristian Vieri, Ivan Zamorano, Dida, and Fabien Barthez.
