CSKA president: We will let Vagner Love go in November

CSKA president Yevgeny Giner spoke about the club’s signings, stated that CSKA are ready to let their forward Vagner Love leave in the nearest future, and explained why the club didn’t try to return their former midfielder Yury Zhirkov who eventually moved from Chelsea to Anzhi Makhachkala.

«Our philosophy differs from Anzhi’s one: they are now trying to build a good team in order to have the basis for the future development. It’s a good objective, but we, as it’s been said on many occacions, focus on the youth. It’s very hard to compete with the best clubs in this realm. For example, we have negotiated with Anderson and Nani, but it’s extremely hard to withstand the competition with Manchester United. This year Barcelona already signed one guy we were interested in. How can you compete with clubs like these?

«Now we’re chasing a forward who seems to be very promising. I don’t think this should have a direct connection him to Vagner–we need four forwards in the squad anyway to play with two forwards. But we really intend to let Vagner go – after eight years spent in one place abroad you really need you change the team. The negotiations will begin in November, when we’ll understand what is going on around, what players are leaving, what do we need to change and which problems do we need to solve in the nearest future.

«Why didn’t you use your priority right to buy out Zhirkov’s contract?»

«We’ve been thinking about that for a long time – Yury obviously is a good player who could strengthen CSKA, but there were two factors which made us refuse his signing. Firstly, I think it’s wrong for a player of such a level to leave the English Premier League. If it happens, it means the player experiences some kind of a breakdown. Secondly, Tosic, Gonzalez, Cauna. and Shchennikov can play on our left flank. We’ll just pull the plug on them by signing Zhirkov,» Giner said to Sport-Express.
