Povetkin vs. Chagaev champions’ fight scheduled for August 27

Alexander Povetkin’s manager, Vladimir Khryunov, has confirmed the reports about the ongoing negotiations on the fight for the WBA title in super heavyweight between the Russian Alexander Povetkin and the former world champion Ruslan Chagaev from Uzbekistan.

«The fight is scheduled to be held on August 27 in the German city of Erfurt. It will be a difficult fight, the contender is serious», Povetkin’s manager stated to RIA Novosti news agency.

After the Ukrainian Vladimir Klitschko defeated the British David Haye in the beginning of July, the latther lost the title of the WBA world champion in a super heavyweight. According to the rules of this organization, the boxer holding the world champion’s titles under other versions, is declaredthe «superchampion». Thus, Klitschko Jr., who had collected the titles of IBF, WBO, and WBA, became the superchampion under the latter of the versions, while the regular WBA title became vacant now and will be contested by Povetkin and Chagaev.
