Ministry of Emegency Situations: Yaroslavl plane hit airport beacon, two survivors named
According to the updated figures, only two people survived in the crash of Yak-42 plane with Lokomotiv Yaroslav hockey team on board. These are Russian forward Alexander Galimov and one of the crew members, possibly a fligh attendant. The victims have already been transported to the hospital.
This was reported by Russia 24 TV channel citing the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
According to the preliminary information, the cause of the crash was the plane’s collision with an airport beacon antenna during the climb due to an insufficient lift.
The crash site is some 2,500 meters from the runway, just next to the Volga River, some fragments of the aircraft and bodies of the victims being found in the water.
So far 29 bodies have been recovered from the site, according to a report by Russia Today citing local rescue services.
