Ksenia Makarova: God wants me to compete for Russia, not USA

Ahead of the upcoming Figure Skating World Championships, the Russian figure skater Ksenia Makarova has revealed why she had chosen the Russian national team.

Born in Russia, Ksenia Makarova is daughter of the retired skating pair Larisa Selezneva and Oleg Makarov, the 1984 Olympic bronze medalists. Their family emigrated to the USA, when she was 8 years old.

«To tell the truth I thought about competing for the United States. But right before I had to make it, I broke my leg. After that I even didn’t try – that was definitely a sign that God wants me to compete for Russia, not America», Makarova told Sport-Express.
