Alexander Barkov appointed head coach of Metallurg Magnitogorsk
Alexander Barkov, former assistant to Kari Heikkila at Metallurg, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Magnitogorsk club, according to its official website.
Barkov’s coaching career began in 2004, from that moment until 2008 he has been working as an assistant and head coach of Tappara junior team in SM-liiga, during 2008-09 season he has been working as assistant coach at Tappara’s first team, and in April 2010 he was appointed senior coach at Metallurg.
Earlier the management of the Magnitogorsk club decided not to renew the contract with Barkov’s superior and predecessor Kari Heikkila.
