Alexander Frolov moves from NY Rangers to Avangard Omsk

New York Rangers forward Alexander Frolov has signed a 3-year contract with the KHL’s Avangard Omsk, according to the official website of the Russian club.

During the 2010-11 season the 28-year-old Russian has played only 43 games because of a serious knee injury, scoring 16 (7+9) points.

Deing drafted in 2000 as No. 20, Frolov has played 579 matches in the NHL, scoring 397 (175+222) points. His record also includes gold medals of 2002 World Junior Championship and 2009 World Championship.

Avangard general manager Anatoli Bardin has commented on the signing of Frolov, saying the club intends to bring back home some more Russians currently playing in the NHL.

«In fact, we had agreed the transfer beforehand, but the contract has been signed only recently. We are going to return our stars from the NHL one by one. Sasha became the first one of them, other names I can’t divulge now. We are thinking over some candidates. There will definitely be some players able to strengthen the team, we have some problems in our defence», said Bardin to RIA Novosti.

«What is our objective for the next season? We always aim for one and the same – the champions’ title.»
