Domenico Criscito: Can’t wait to work under Spalletti

The 24-year-old Italy defender Domenico Criscito who recently moved from Serie A’s Genoa to Russia’s Zenit, has explained why he had chosen the St. Petersburg club.

«Major Italian clubs like Juventus, Inter, and Napoli wanted to sign you. What made you choose Zenit instead?

«Zenit have expreseed their interest, they showed that they liked me. In addition to that, Zenit has an Italian coach who was very keen on me. I am happy to have an opportunity to work under Spalletti.»

«What did Spalletti tell you?»

«Spalletti called me a few times, we had a little conversation. I said that I’m very glad to work with him, and he said he was very glad to see me move to Zenit. I can’t wait to start training under Luciano.»

«Do you know anything about Russia?»

«To tell the truth, I know nearly nothing about the country. But I know a little about the Russian league, I know that football has been growing quickly here during the last years and the Russian championship has become stronger,» stated Criscito in an interview with Sovetsky Sport.

The Italian signed a five-year contract with Zenit on Monday. His transfer, according to Genoa president Enrico Preziosi, has cost the Russian club some 11 million Euro.
