Why Alex GUDU is not so GOOD

Gudu

ALEXANDER GUDUMAK is the great athlete and not the slow one. I’ve heard much of his playing for CSKA second team and a week ago managed to see him live in Nizhny during the VTB game.

Now as he faced mature higher level basketball and it looks like he is still not in his shoes.

He can fight with any kind of PF or center in the paint, but he is almost helpless on the perimeter. Coming along to the arc he can lose his “switched” little  perimeter guy (to everybody’s surprise).  And tries to find his post player to defend instead. It happened 2-3 times before I put that down. He can be late for switches and his legs though powerful are not so fast, not speaking about his lateral movements.

He produces an impression of a paint player which is a limitation to modern basketball especially with his physical parameters.  In Defense he is taught to be focused on the ball side of the offense covering gaps under the ring. He blocks shots a bit but his second hop ability is low.

He is good screen maker but he fails to drop or pop up fast to get the ball.

In his favor I can add he can run forward and back. HE is ready to shoot any mid range as soon as there is a little space. His release is not of a PG or SF but the shot is set technically with quite a good arc. He likes to play back to the ring with a semi-hook finish, but his pivots are not that problematic for defenders.

His drives are not explosive and his first step is not a flash. So he is more physical driver than elusive one. He tends to go the right side and is ready to dunk every lay -up jump.

Anyway the «helper» again did a rough job helping RED WING in immaculate victory against NIZHNY 88:84. Samara brought only 9 guys and used 8 and this was enough.

Gudu finished with 20,5 minutes and 6 points, 2 Rebounds and 3 assists. Kaspars Berzins was the hero of the game with 24 minutes, 24 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists, 34 efficiency rate.

In conclusion I must admit he is in a helper role playing for RED WINGS, with unstable minutes and is an inconsistent scorer. GUDU is so far from the one who can make a clutch shot or win the game. I wish I was wrong and I hope this situation will change in 2-3 years. Late bloomer?

P.S. In the last VTB-League game against Avtodor, Alex scored 17 points (8/12 from the field, grabbed 8 REB, executed 5 turovers; which was the best stats in his team.
