Davis Cup: Nikolay Davydenko pleased after winning despite having a cold
Russian tennis player Nikolay Davydenko admitted he was struggling with a cold during his pairs victory with teammate Mikhail Yuzhny over the Austrian team (7:6, 6:7, 7:5, 3:6, 6:4) in teh Davis Cup.
«During the match I lost my voice several times, so that I couldn’t communicate properly with my partner and our coach. I only felt more or less comfortable in the first two-and-a-half sets, after that my body gave in and I got really weak and started getting cramps. Our opponents sensed it and started volleying more, so that I couldn’t react quickly enough. Thank god that I got a little better by the end of third set and we won. I am happy that I was able to pull myself together for the key games, even though being on top through all the five sets was impossible for me,» said the Russian.
