FHR President Vladislav Tretiak: We have agreed a reform package for the KHL
Russian hockey president Vladislav Tretiak disclosed some of the KHL reforms that will be introduced by the league in the near future. The Russian hockey legend highlighted the three main aspects that will undergo changes.
«We discussed the problems with the national team coaches and various experts and have agreed on a reform package for the KHL. The basic idea was that we need to lower the intensity of the tournament, so that teams have more time to train,» Tretiak told Sport-Express.
«I spoke to the MHL representatives, they play up to 60 games a season, so, if you include the long-distance flights, there is hardly any time left for training. Look at the NHL, the players there are complete in their technical ability, but a lot of our lads still need to work to achieve that level. So we need to decrease the number of games per season.»
«Antoher problem is that for six months of the year the players are on holiday, and that is unacceptable. The youngsters have to be working their socks of to become true champions, as we used to in CSKA under our coach Tarasov. So we intend to reduce the vacation period.
«And finally, there is still the issue of foreign players, so we need to tighten the regulations,» the president insisted.
