Leonid Fedun: Karpin’s future at Spartak will be decided on May 15
Spartak Moscow owner Leonid Fedun commented on his club’s 2-0 victory over Kuban and reacted to the calls for the resignation of head coach Valery Karpin.
«I was pleased that Bryzgalov returned to central midfield, I was impressed with his game. I always insisted that his best position is defensive midfielder: he reads the game well and intercepts opponents’ passes, which is a rare quality for a youngster,» the Russian businessman stated, speaking to R-Sport.
«We deserved to win, but there was a tense period after Kirill Kombarov’s injury. Every spring we get this injury nightmare – eight players are sidelined at the moment. Even Kirill had to play through the pain, and I thank him for it. I think that the changes that Karpin made in the team played a key part in this success,» he continued.
Asked what his thoughts were on the fans chants aimed at Karpin, calling for his resignation, Fedun replied:
«People entitled to their own opinions. Whether or not his time has passed will be determined on May 15 – the last matchday of the season. Let me respond to you then.»
