Arsene Wenger: I don’t think Arshavin intends to return to Russia any time soon

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger spoke to a Guardian reporter about the future of Russia captain Andrey Arshavin at the London club.

«At the moment we play a little bit under difficult circumstances but we have to realise that we have to support our players. I personally have a huge respect for Andrey Arshavin and if you would see him behave every day you would have one as well. I understand everybody’s frustrations because I’m quite tolerant – but there is still a difference between frustration and lack of respect,» said the Gunners boss.

Asked if he thinks that Arshavin’s return to Russia is a possibility, the Frenchman replied: «For me, no.» He conceded that the ultimate decision is down to the Russian midfielder himself, but, in Wenger’s opinion, he does not intend to leave London.
