FBI investigate 2018 and 2022 World Cup elections

The USA Federal Bureau of Investigation is holding an inquiry into how the elections for the right to host the 2018 World Cup and the 2022 World Cup, eventually awarded to Russia and Qatar, respectively, have been held.

According to The Telegraph, the representatives of the English bid for the 2018 World Cup have already been examined.

FBI are also reported to have strong evidence of some attempts to hack the electronic mailboxes owned by the members of the US bidding committee for the 2022 World Cup. The FBI’s investigation is supported by FIFA whose head of security Chris Eaton is expected to meet the agency’s representatives soon.
