Nenad Krstic and Sammy Mejia sign for CSKA Moscow
Nenad Krstic (27 years, 212 sm) and defender/forward Sammy Mejia (28 years, 197 cm) have joined CSKA, according to the club’s official website. The Serbian center has signed an agreement until the end of 2012-13 season, while the U.S.-born Dominican has signed for two seasons.
Krstic is the captain of the Serbia national team. He began his career at Partizan Belgrad, where he played until being drafted in the NBA in 2002. In 2004, he joined the New Jersey Nets, his first club in the North America. The 2008-09 season Nenad spent at Triumph Lyubertsy, but then returned to the NBA, playing for Oklahoma City and Boston.
«I love being under pressure. It’s one of the reasons I have decided to move to Europe. In the NBA you spend 82 games a season and at times they become a routine. Meanwhile, I know that in Europe, both in clubs and in national teams, each game is important. Here you have to pass some kind of a test for character strength every time, which allows to make a lot of conclusions about you as a person.
«I’m happy to be at CSKA. I know the club’s history, I know that they have been making it into the Euroleague’s Final Four for eight years in a row. Last time I played in the Euroleague when I was only 21 and now I’m motivated once again to try myself in this tournament. I’ve also heard a lot of good words about the Russian league, which is one of the strongest on the continent,» said Krstic according to the CSKA official site.
Mejia began his career at DePaul University team, was picked in the 2nd round of draft, and played in the NBA farm league. He spent the past two seasons with Cholet Basket in France, winning the national championship this year and being named its best foreign player.
