The first ever Russian Grand Prix is to be held as part of the 2014 F1 season.
F1 Russian GP is planned at The Sochi International Street Circuit, previously known as the Sochi Olympic Park Circuit, is a 5.872 km Formula One racing street circuit under construction in the Black Sea resort town of Sochi in Krasnodar Krai, Russia.
The circuit is similar to Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and the Sydney Olympic Park Circuit in that it will run around a venue used for Olympic competition; in this case, the Sochi Olympic Park site, scene of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Following the news that the Indian Grand Prix has disappeared from the 2014 calendar, it seems that the Russian Grand Prix planned in Sochi could also be facing tough times as organizers missed the deadline to file for application with the FIA on July 31st. According to Sky Sports F1, the Russian Automobile Federation (RAF) and race organizers are failing to come to an agreement:
“The application to the FIA for submitting the Russian Grand Prix to the 2014 Formula One calendar was not sent in proper time as [promoters] JSC Omega didn’t fulfil the necessary conditions,” the RAF said in a statement.
“That is, it didn’t sign a contract with the Russian Grand Prix organiser, didn’t sign a deal for an application submission and also didn’t pay a fee to the FIA for including an event on the FIA F1 calendar.
“RAF informs it is ready to include the Russian Grand Prix on to the FIA calendar under force-majeure conditions, permissible by the FIA, as soon as the promoter fulfils all the necessary formalities.”
Sky Sports F1 says that the issue is the labor costs to staff the race and this is why the application is late. With India gone, the Russian Grand Prix would most likely slot into the mid-October time frame once held by the Indian Grand Prix, wrote formula1blog.com
