Greek clubs may be kicked out of international competitions
UEFA and FIFA could impose an international ban on all the clubs from Greece if a new sports related law is passed in the Greek parliament, Sovetsky sport reports.
The proposed legislation would allow the League to disqualify any professional team from the national competitions if they are found to have outstanding debts to the government or other parties.
The international footballing bodies consider such legislation as an infringement on the part of the federal government into the business of the national league and that goes against FIFA regulations.
Under the same ruling Greece may also miss next summer’s European Championship.
One of the clubs, Olympiacos, is currently awaiting the second leg of the UEFA Europa League play-off against Lokomotiv Moscow, having beaten the Russian side 1-0 in the away fixture.
