Metallurg Novokuznetsk confirm signing of Canadiens’ Brent Sopel

Montreal Canadiens defender Brent Sopel will continue his career in the KHL club Metallurg Novokuznetsk, the Russian club’s official website reported. The player has signed a two-year contract.

Last season the 34-year-old player took part in 71 games in the NHL regular championship and scored 7 (2+5) points, whereas in the play-offs he played 7 matches and scored 1 goal.

During his whole career Sopel has player 659 matches in the NHL and scored 218 (44+174) points.

It’s worth noting that Sopel won the Stanley Cup in the 2009-10 season.
