Alexander Ovechkin visits Russian football league game, puts on Dagestani national costume at halftime
Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin has spoken about the visit he paid to the matchday 17 game of the Russian Premier League, where Anzhi Makhachkala hosted Zenit St. Petersburg.
«In general I have been supporting Dynamo Moscow since childhood. I happened to be at the match in Makhachkala for two reasons. Firstly, I was invited there by my friend, a fan of Anzhi. And secondly, another friend of mine, forward Alexander Prudnikov, plays for this team.»
«Who has dressed you up in a burka and a papakha [Dagestani felt cloak and hat, respectively, – Sports.ru]?»
«In general I was received very nicely in Makhachkala. They have introduced me to the president of Dagestan and greeted me at the stadium. I liked it all very much! As for the burka and the papakha, it was a part of the program. I was even curious to try them on.»
«I’m sure they have also given you something as present?»
«A dagger. I have brought it to Moscow,» stated Ovechkin in an interview with Sovetsky Sport.
