President of Uzbekistani FA: Arsenal is interested in Anzhi’s Odil Ahmedov

According to Mirabror Usmanov, president of the Uzbekistan Football Federation, Anzhi Makhachkala midfielder Odil Ahmedov is currently on the radar of English powerhouse Arsenal.

«Such a flattering offer from English club became possible due to the successful performance of the Uzbekistan national team at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, where Uzbekistan took fourth place,» stated Usmanov as quoted by RIA Novosti.

This year Uzbekistan national team reached the semifinals of the Asian Cup. Ahmedov took part in six matches, scoring two goals and being singled out by the experts as one of the best players of the tournament. A month later he was loaned out to Anzhi Makhachkala.

It’s worth noting that one of the Arsenal owners is Alisher Usmanov, a Russian businessman of Uzbek descent, who owns about 27 percent of the club’s shares.
